Mazkur maqolada bo‘lajak dasturchi muhandislarning o‘quv-bilish kompetentligini ob’ektiv baholash uchun ESI (Effectiveness Score Index) metrikasini ishlab chiqish masalasi ko‘rib chiqilgan. Mutatsion testlash natijasini (mutation score) bevosita baho sifatida qo‘llash kompetentlik darajasini to‘liq aks ettirmasligi asoslangan. Buning o‘rniga talaba testlarining samaradorligini to‘rt komponent — o‘ldirilgan mutantlar ulushi, murakkab (semantik) mutantlarni aniqlash aniqligi, yechim vaqti va mutant turlari bo‘yicha qamrov asosida yagona normallashtirilgan indeksga jamlovchi ESI metrikasi taklif etilgan. Pilot ma’lumotlar tahlili ESI talabalarni “kod ishlaydi, ammo testlar zaif” va “testlar haqiqiy xatolarni tutadi” toifalariga ajratish imkonini berishini ko‘rsatdi.
