The study of verbal categories is central to understanding the intricate mechanisms through which languages convey temporal and aspectual information. Among these categories, taxis the grammatical expression of the temporal relationship between actions or events occupies a critical position in English linguistics. This thesis offers a comprehensive analysis of the morphological category of taxis in English, examining both its structural manifestations and semantic nuances. Drawing on a combination of descriptive and comparative approaches, the study explores the morphological and analytical means through which English encodes anteriority, simultaneity, and posteriority, as well as their syntactic realizations in complex and subordinate clauses. The findings reveal that taxis operates not merely as a temporal marker but also as a mechanism for expressing causality, dependency, and aspectual distinctions, highlighting its significance for both theoretical linguistics and practical language acquisition.
